Hey Strangekittens. This week, I went for something a little darker, and partially inspired by Cesare Borgia. (I want season 2 already!). Like his character, this look is dark and bloody, with a flashes of brilliance. We all know, the Borgias like their bling.
You will need:
- Essie’s Bordeaux/Essie’s Fishnet Stockings
- Essie’s Wrapped in Rubies
- A good topcoat, I chose to go over it with a matte, but the shine looked good too.
- Some invisible tape. The cheaper the better, you don’t want it to be super strong in case you need to reposition them.
Cut a 3 inch length of tape. Using a plastic box, or something you can peel the tape off easily, paint the strips with Wrapped in Rubies. Mine took 3 coats for complete opacity, it’s up to you. Let this dry while you do the next bit. Make sure you leave extra on the ends to make it easy to peel off.
A few coats of either the Bordeaux, or Fishnet stockings. I tried it with both, or you could alternate, but I couldn’t decide so I listed both! I ended up using Bordeaux. Make sure your nails are completely dry before the next step, or you’ll have a disaster on your nails!
Carefully cut roughly triangular pieces of the painted tape. Place randomly on your nails. Tap gently to flatten if need be. Tweezers may help with placement.
After you’re done, you really need to seal with a topcoat of some kind, or they WILL peel off, especially if you have edges near your nail tips.
I used a shine coat for the photo, but later put a matte coat over it, which I prefer now actually. Here’s how mine looked:
Hot Meow: If you put a thin coat of matte coat over a gloss coat, you get this lovely satiny finish.
Have a great weekend everyone!
