Hey guys, it’s international women’s day. As you may have gathered from the title, I’d like to know what this means to you.
Male or female, women affect everyone. We all have mothers, possibly sisters, aunties and definitely a female friend or two.
What I really mean is: How do you feel about the existence of a day of recognition? I seldom recognize such days as I feel it’s the same point as Morgan Freeman brought up, about black history month: Why is it necessary to recognise it as black history month? We’re part of the same history as white people. It’s not black history, it’s just history.
What do you think?
I believe it’s the same thing. Although I do believe in recognition for the merits of someone’s work/achievements, I don’t believe in sweeping accolades that don’t seem to mean anything.
I’d be more on board with this sort of stuff if we did it in a way that seriously affected change for those involved.
What’s your opinion on this idea?
