Product reviews: Sugar Rose/Fresh Lip Treatments + JB Lip Balm

Hey Strangekittens,

This month I’ve been spoiled with many Sephora visits, courtesy of my Beauty Insider card, and theweejenny giving me a hefty gift card for my birthday!

So I thought I’d share reviews of my latest haul with you. I’m actually going to do two separate posts, one for the lip stuff, and another for the eye shadows.

Today we’re looking at this year’s Sephora birthday gift for their members – a lip balm duo – Sugar Fresh, and Sugar Rose treatments ($22.50 each) (pictured above)

This stuff smells DIVINE. I mean, like candy and roses and YUMMY! The set I got came with a clear one, and a lightly cherry tinted one.

They both have SPF 15. No taste that I can speak of; pretty much the same as chap stick. You won’t notice it anyway unless you make a habit of chewing on your lips.

Sephora.com says it is formulated without:

– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Dyes
– Petrochemicals
– Phthalates
– GMOs
– Triclosan

And that it also free of petroleum, mineral oils and lanolin.

These ones are sample sized, but it’s enough to last me quite awhile. The full size ones are 0.15oz.

The tint on the cherry one is build-able; first coat goes on very sheer, a couple more and it looks like a sexy bitten look.

Clear one is well, clear, obviously 🙂

I LOVE the pretty metal packaging. One problem I hate about some lipstick styled balms is that the cap will come off in my purse and go to Narnia, if you know what I mean, Then everything in my bag gets a coating of lip balm! But these ones have a screw cap; it’s really quite durable and stays there.

The balm itself is effective on my lips, after regular use they do feel smoother and softer. I’m definitely getting less dry skin and dare I say they look a little plumper? Wishful thinking maybe, but they do look better!

This is something I’d probably buy again, when I’m earning more. My only complaint is that I think they’re a little pricey for a balm at $22. But if you can afford it, they’re worth the price and feel very luxurious!

Next up: Jack Black Authentic and Original Lip Balm (Intense Therapy) in Black Tea Blackberry (Phew, what a title) ($7.50)

Jack Black lip balm

This one was a random pick up. I had some Beauty Insider points built up and this was the 100 point perk. This stuff also smells noms! It smells like blackberry wine gums.

It’s a heavy duty lip balm made for extreme conditions (windy, really sunny, cold). It goes on quite thick for a balm but feels silky too, not greasy. It has an SPF 25, which is nice if you’re out at the beach or skiing. It’s really helping right now, with it being winter here in Canada. Vancouver can be very windy and it’s nice not to feel all dry and peely.

This one also doesn’t really have a taste. The regular size is 0.25oz.

Sephora.com says it is formulated without:

– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Dyes
– Petrochemicals
– Phthalates
– GMOs
– Triclosan

Also: “Shea butter and avocado oil deliver moisture while vitamin E and green tea contribute antioxidant fortification. For powerful sun protection, PARSOL and Octinoxate team up to block both UVA and UVB rays.”

After wearing this regularly for a few days you do see the effects of the vitamin E and Shea butter. My lips are smoother and more moisturised.

This feels like it’d be good for athletes or people spending lots of time outdoors; it’s a bit heavy for anyone else, unless you live somewhere very cold, or very dry.

That’s all for today. Look out for another review later this week!
