Alternatives to Instagram, + How to backup your stuff
By now, you’ve heard of Instagram’s ridiculous new ToS they’re bringing in on Jan 16th. As a industry professional, I cannot allow my work to be used uncompensated, among other things. Check out here what model Coco Rocha has to say. Personally, I’ve quit already, and asked my collaborators and clients to take down any work I still own copyrights to. It’s a huge pain in the ass, thanks Insta-goons. … Continue reading
Friday Nails: Trim the tree
Hey guys! This is my week 3 entry for NPC’s Holiday Nail Art competition. Seeing as everyone else is doing straight up trees and baubles, I decided to be a weirdo and go abstract It’s kinda symbolic. The red is for Canada. The gold is for the good times with friends. The diamond/stars is for the hopes we hold for a new year. Xmas is not traditionally a happy … Continue reading
Friday Nails: That’s a wrap!
Hey guys! This week’s nails are a classy, elegant way to do a Xmas theme. I’m bringing in chrome, purple and glitter. (There had to be glitter.) It’s inspired by some cute silver and purple striped boxes I saw this weekend. It’s also an entry in Nail Polish Canada’s Holiday theme competition. (Voting closed) You will need: A silver polish, I used Essie ‘There’s No Place Like Chrome’ A deep … Continue reading
Friday Nails: Break time before the holidays
Hey guys! As regular readers know, I give my poor nails a break every few weeks, so no tutorial this week. As well as that, I’m preparing for Nail Polish Canada’s Holiday Themed nail tutorial competition! Starting the week of Nov 19th, i’ll be posting themed nail art according to the theme the competition sets each week. I could win a load of nail polish prizes, wish me luck! What do you … Continue reading
Friday Nails: Bundlemonster layering experiment
Hey guys. This week I decided to experiment with some different polishes with the Konad Stamper and Bundlemonster plates I reviewed last week. I’m trying to find other polish colours that work with the plates/stamper. I’ve found that it has to be on the thicker side.So I tried one of my chrome polishes that had thickened up a bit. It worked pretty well, but I chose poorly for the design! … Continue reading
Friday Nails: Bundlemonster Stamping Plates review
Hey guys! I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween, including our kitties on the east coast. This week’s nails are courtesy of the awesome people at Nail Polish Canada. They asked me if I wanted to try out their new stamping plates from Bundlemonster. This pack is 25 nail stamping plates, designed to work with stamping kits like Konad Nail Stamper. There’s 150 designs altogether, so plenty to play … Continue reading
Friday Nails: Halloween Devils
Hey guys! Here’s another cute and quick Halloween manicure. You could do this in any colour combo you like, I just like red and silver You will need: A base colour (I used Essie’s Bordeaux) An accent colour (I used a greyish-pink Essence colour) 2 fine brushes You could use black for the eyes, but mine dried up, which is why it’s red! Step one: Apply 2-3 coats of your base … Continue reading
Wednesday Noms: Food Photography tips part 5: Angles and balance
Hey guys. This week, i’m talking about angles and visual balance. This is something that’s actually quite different, somewhat, from people photography. Like i’ve mentioned before, food (generally) doesn’t have facial expressions…it can’t pose itself flatteringly. But, the important thing here is visual balance. No matter if the angle is from straight above, the side or below, there needs to be compositional balance. I’m going to delve lightly into some art theory … Continue reading
Wednesday Noms: Food photography – Props
This is part 4 of my food photography tips. This week, we’re all about the props. Yes, there are props! Unless you plan on just hovering the food in mid-air…although that would be cool. Props are indeed an important aspect of food photography. It can make or break a photo in this case, because you’re generally focussing on one subject; you don’t want to distract too much. With food, obvious … Continue reading
